The terahertz (THz) region of the electromagnetic spectrum, which lies between microwave and infrared, offers a number of exciting opportunities for scientists and engineers.
Already we are seeing new airport security scanners, medical diagnostics, tools for process monitoring in manufacturing, and high-speed communications.
In this talk, Dr Graham will give an overview of the current exploitation of this unique part of the electromagnetic spectrum, with a focus on how THz pulses can be used as the driving sources for a new generation of table-top particle accelerators. He will we discuss some of the first experiments using THz to accelerate and manipulate the relativistic 35 MeV electron beam at the CLARA research facility at STFC Daresbury Laboratory.
Monday 21st November. 18:30 start.
