‘Snot Just Slime! – The Mucus Barrier
Dr Erin Pallott
The word mucus usually makes us think of stuffy noses during a cold, but it’s a whole lot more. Since evolving hundreds of millions of years ago, mucus has been an exceptional defence mechanism governing what comes in and what stays out.
Dr Erin Pallott is a final year PhD student at the University of Manchester researching mucus responses to parasitic infections – a specialist in biology that ruins dinner table conversations. This talk will introduce you to the wonderful niche world of mucus research, from ancient medicine to the cutting-edge.
